Follow Malawian mangoes on their journey from orchard to international market. This video shows how the UK government-funded Malawi Value Chains (MVC) Project is helping to build a more productive and competitive mango industry. Reaching export markets takes more than good fruit. Exporters need a reliable supply of high-quality mangoes that meet strict standards, and that depends on specialist knowledge of pruning, nutrition, pest control and harvesting. Through MVC, growers receive technical assistance and training to strengthen orchard management, increase yields and improve fruit quality.

MVC also strengthens the route to market by building connections across the mango value chain. After harvest, mangoes go to processors such as Malawi Mangoes, the country's leading mango processor and exporter, where each fruit is washed, inspected, peeled, sliced and dried. The dried mango is then shipped to international markets, including the United Kingdom. Under the UK Developing Countries Trading Scheme, eligible Malawian mango products can enter the UK tariff-free when the required standards are met.
