Extending the Mango Season and Increasing Yields in Ghana

This field-based summary report assesses production challenges and opportunities in Ghana’s Brong Ahafo region. It identifies excessive vegetative flushing, bacterial black spot, pest pressure, and market inefficiencies as key constraints, while recommending canopy and root pruning, balanced nutrition, and season-extension practices (e.g., tipping to synchronise flowering).

Farmers benefit by learning techniques to increase yields and extend harvest periods to capture better prices.

The report is valuable for mango farmers, extension officers, processors and donor programmes aiming to strengthen West Africa’s mango sector.
