Export-Oriented Mango Production for Medium-Scale Farmers in Malawi: A Long-Term Investment Approach
This training, held on 9th September 2025, focused on building the business and financial skills of medium-scale mango farmers in Malawi to strengthen their competitiveness in export markets. Participants explored the profitability potential of mango farming, seasonal cashflow cycles, and the importance of patient capital to support long-term investment in orchards. The training also covered practical tools for financial planning, record-keeping, and farm cost modeling, alongside an overview of financing options available in Malawi. Sessions highlighted key risks facing the mango sector—climate shocks, pests, market volatility—and strategies for resilience. Finally, farmers were introduced to the access-to-finance process, including capital raise preparation, investor engagement, and closing deals.
By equipping farmers with financial literacy and investment readiness, the training aims to foster sustainable growth in Malawi’s mango sector and position farmers to take advantage of high-value export opportunities.
