Rethinking Agricultural Extension

This learning paper examines MVC’s experience supporting mid-sized macadamia and mango farmers through a hybrid approach to farmer learning and technical support. Rather than replacing face-to-face support with digital tools, MVC combined physical engagement with digital communication, peer learning and access to technical resources to create a more continuous and responsive approach.

The paper explores how demand-driven support enabled farmers to access relevant knowledge and technical expertise when production and commercial challenges arose, and draws out lessons for designing more adaptive and connected farmer support systems.
