Practical Actions for Compliance with EU Pesticide Residue Requirements (Macadamia)

This document provides practical, action-oriented guidance to help Malawi’s macadamia producers and exporters comply with European Union pesticide residue regulations. It translates complex regulatory requirements into clear steps that can be applied across production, aggregation, and processing stages.

The document explains how Maximum Residue Levels (MRLs) are set, how to interpret EU pesticide databases, and how to manage pre-harvest intervals (PHIs), spray records, and approved pesticide use. It also highlights the importance of national and exporter-led residue monitoring programmes, risk profiling, and corrective actions to reduce the likelihood of border rejections.

The guidance supports exporters in developing risk-based residue management plans, strengthening traceability systems, and aligning farm-level practices with buyer and regulatory expectations.
